You Can Now Buy the Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada
Nintendo’s Switch 2 console has officially launched in Canada, now available for purchase at authorized retailers.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a significant upgrade over the original Nintendo Switch, which launched wayyy back in March 2017. It retains the hybrid design for handheld, tabletop, and docked play.
Priced at $629.99 in Canada, it’s $130 more than the original’s $499, reflecting enhanced features like a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate, compared to the original’s 6.2-inch 720p LCD at 60Hz.
The Switch 2 has a custom Nvidia chip for superior performance, supporting 4K60 or 1080p120 when docked, a leap from the original’s 1080p60 max, and offers 256GB of storage versus 32GB, though it requires microSD Express cards, not compatible with the original’s microSD.
New magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers include mouse-like functionality and a built-in mic for GameChat, absent in the original’s rail-attached Joy-Cons, alongside a sturdier stand and a second USB-C port. It’s backward compatible with most Switch games, but exclusives like Mario Kart World and a $629.99 price tag set it apart, while the original remains a cost-effective option with a vast library.
There was a midnight Switch 2 launch party held in Toronto earlier this morning to kick off sales.
You can order the Switch 2 right now on Amazon.ca, with both the standalone console and the Mario Kart World bundle available. You need an invitation but if Prime shipping comes through, you can save yourself time from driving to a store.
