WWDC 2025 Preview: Apple’s Biggest Leaker Breaks It Down

We’re just days away from Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) and now the biggest leaker of Apple products, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, has released his final “what to expect” for the event set to kick off Monday morning on June 9.

The major update? A new look for the software that powers iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro. Apple is redesigning the entire interface across its devices. The new style takes cues from the Vision Pro’s “glass-like” visual effects, with cleaner menus, pop-out tabs, and updated icons. iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and even CarPlay will shift to a design system Apple calls “Solarium” internally, bringing more light and transparency to the user experience.

Apple will also rename its software versions based on the year instead of numbers. That means you’ll hear about iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26—all tied to 2026, even though they’re launching this year.

A few apps are getting big changes, according to Gurman:

  • Phone app: New layout with favourites, recents, and voicemails in one place.
  • Safari: A sleeker, more glassy look.
  • Camera app: Simplified interface after years of feature overload.
  • Messages: Adds polls and background syncing between users, similar to WhatsApp.
  • Preview app (from the Mac) will debut on iPhone and iPad for handling PDFs.
  • A new Games app will combine Apple Arcade and downloaded games into one hub.

On the AI front, Apple will talk about Apple Intelligence but the updates are relatively modest:

  • Built-in live translation for calls and texts.
  • Developers will get access to Apple’s large language models to build new features.
  • Genmoji gets an upgrade: users can now blend two emoji into a custom one.
  • A new AI-powered battery-saving mode may be shown off, aimed at future iPhones.

Aside from that, a Siri AI chatbot like ChatGPT or Gemini won’t be coming yet. So the expectations are low for any breakthrough Apple Intelligence announcements.

As for Vision Pro, it will gain features like eye scrolling and support for third-party hand controllers—aimed at making navigation and gaming more immersive.

Longtime Apple follower John Gruber and his podcast The Talk Show will be live at WWDC again, but this time Apple declined his invitation to have executives on his show for the first time, since 2015. Why? Gruber slammed Apple earlier this year over the botched launch of Siri and Apple Intelligence. No surprise there.

We’ll have full coverage of all WWDC updates on Monday. The keynote kicks off at 10am PT/1pm ET. Let’s see what Tim Cook has in store for us.
