Apple Unveils New ‘Liquid Glass’ UI at WWDC 2025

Apple introduced a transformative redesign for its software platforms at WWDC 2025, unveiling the new “Liquid Glass” user interface. This marks the most significant visual overhaul since iOS 7, unifying the aesthetic across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26.

“At Apple, we’ve always believed in the deep integration of hardware and software that makes interacting with technology intuitive, beautiful, and delightful,” said Alan Dye, Apple’s VP of Human Interface Design.

“This is our broadest software design update ever. Meticulously crafted by rethinking the fundamental elements that make up our software, the new design features an entirely new material called Liquid Glass. It combines the optical qualities of glass with a fluidity only Apple can achieve, as it transforms depending on your content or context. It lays the foundation for new experiences in the future and, ultimately, it makes even the simplest of interactions more fun and magical.”

Apple’s Liquid Glass UI is characterized by its translucent, glass-like elements that adapt dynamically to user interactions and environmental lighting. Drawing inspiration from visionOS, this new material reflects and refracts its surroundings, offering a fluid and responsive experience.

The new design wraps everything from key interface components such as buttons, switches, sliders, navigation bars, and text to system experiences like the Lock Screen, Home Screen, Control Center, and notifications in a shimmering, frosted appearance, providing a sense of depth and elegance.

Liquid Glass takes advantage of real-time rendering to dynamically react to interactions and visual context, with UI elements taking on the colours of their surrounding content and automatically adapting between light and dark environments.

Beyond aesthetics, the redesign enhances usability. Controls and navigation elements are crafted from Liquid Glass, allowing them to transform fluidly as users interact with content. This approach not only beautifies the interface but also streamlines the user experience, making interactions more intuitive and engaging.

Apple’s commitment to a cohesive ecosystem is evident with this update, as the Liquid Glass redesign extends across all major platforms to ensure a consistent and uniform user experience. This unified approach underscores Apple’s dedication to blending form and function, creating an interface that is both visually appealing and user-friendly.

“For the very first time, the new design extends across platforms — iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26 — to establish even more harmony while maintaining the distinct qualities that make each unique,” the company said. It is even coming to Apple CarPlay, alongside widgets and more.

With the Liquid Glass UI, Apple sets a new standard for software design, offering users a more delightful and elegant interaction with their devices. What do you think about Apple’s interface redesign? Let us know in the comments below.

Steve Balmer must be feeling pretty smug now that someone has finally copied the Windows Vista Aero interface lol. But all joking aside, I like it!
