Mobland Season 2 Confirmed by Paramount+ After Record Viewership

Paramount+ has officially renewed Mobland for a second season (and rightfully so as expected). The crime drama, which stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren, has pulled in over 26 million viewers since its premiere and ranked as the second most-watched original series on the platform (Landman is first).

Season 1 debuted on March 30 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia, with international markets following in May. The show quickly found a global audience, appearing in Nielsen’s Top 10 Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) Originals for five straight weeks and hitting #1 in the U.K.

“With over 26 million viewers and climbing, MOBLAND has become a resounding triumph driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David C. Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances by Tom, Pierce, and Helen,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment, in a statement on Monday. “We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom.”

Mobland tells the story of two powerful mob families whose rivalry threatens to destroy everything around them. The cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Jasmine Jobson. Hardy’s performance as the Harrigans family fixer is awesome in Mobland—does the guy even raise his voice more than a whisper? Brosnan’s Irish accent is so strong at times you can’t even figure out what he’s saying.

The series marks filmmaker Guy Ritchie’s first foray into television and is written by Ronan Bennett (Top Boy) and Jez Butterworth (Ford v Ferrari, Spectre). Butterworth’s other hit series The Agency: Central Intelligence (which is a total slow burner) is also streaming on Paramount+.

Filming details or a release date for Season 2 have not been shared yet. In the meantime, all episodes of Mobland Season 1 are available to stream on Paramount+.

The Netflix series (not the movie with the same title from 2019), The Gentlemen, was released at least a year before the MobLand so the latter cannot be the “Guy Ritchie’s first foray into television”.
