Super Mario Strikers Arriving on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on July 3

Super Mario Strikers, a beloved GameCube title, is arriving on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack next month. On July 3, the Mario-based soccer game will be available exclusively to subscribers on Nintendo Switch 2.

This week, Nintendo revealed that Super Mario Strikers is joining the catalogue of classic GameCube titles. The sports game first hit Nintendo’s GameCube system back in 2005.

Developed by Next Level Games, Super Mario Strikers is a fast-paced soccer game where players can forcibly shove one another out of the way while attempting to steal the ball and score. While scoring can lead to the accumulation of points, team captains can use the ‘Super Strikes’ to double their points when scoring. Mario-themed items like red shells and bananas can also be used to gain an advantage in the field.

The game features a roster of characters including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, Donkey Kong, and more.

Although the game is releasing on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, access will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Much like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX, the game can only be accessed if using a Nintendo Switch 2.

Super Mario Strikers is the first new GameCube title to enter the classic library since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched earlier this month. Other games yet to arrive include Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Super Mario Sunshine, and Luigi’s Mansion. However, there’s no firm indication of when these titles will be added to the catalogue.

If you’re eager to get the full GameCube experience on Nintendo Switch 2, the company is also selling a GameCube controller made for the Nintendo Switch 2, available for $84.99 in Canada. While maintaining the same design and layout as the original controller, the new version includes a Capture Button and the C-Button to use for GameChat.

An annual subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is available for $63.99 in Canada. Nintendo also offers a 12-month Family Membership, including up to eight accounts, for $99.99.
