Anker Power Bank Recall in Canada: Check If Yours Is Affected

If you bought an Anker power bank off Amazon.ca recently, you might want to double-check the model — it could be a fire risk.
Health Canada has issued a recall for several Anker portable chargers on June 27, warning that the lithium-ion batteries in some units can overheat and may catch fire. As of June 18, no injuries or incidents have been reported in Canada, but nearly 12,000 of these power banks were sold between December 2023 and June 2025.
The recall includes the following models that may be affected:
- Anker Power Bank A1647 (20,000mAh, built-in USB-C cable)
- Anker Zolo Power Bank A1681 (20K, 30W, built-in USB-C and Lightning cable)
- Anker Zolo Power Bank A1689 (20K, 30W, built-in USB-C cable)
Only specific serial numbers are affected. You can check your unit’s serial number by looking at the side or back of the power bank and compare it using Anker’s official recall tool.
If you own one of the recalled Anker power banks, Health Canada says to stop using it right away. Go to Anker.com to check if your serial number is affected. If it is, contact Anker for a free replacement unit or a voucher you can use on their website.
Canadian law says you can’t sell, give away, or redistribute a recalled product, so you’re supposed to safely dispose of it by reaching out to your local municipality (unless you want to dummy your enemies).
Anker says this is a “global voluntary recall” for selected power banks. “We identified a potential manufacturing defect involving lithium-ion battery cells supplied by a single vendor. These cells, commonly used in the consumer electronics industry, were included in three PowerCore models sold in multiple markets.”
“This issue was detected through enhanced quality assurance protocols that Anker implemented after a previous recall. While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, we are initiating a voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution,” said Anker.
