Nintendo Canada Says Prices are Changing for Consoles, Games and More

Nintendo is planning to change the prices of its Switch consoles, games, and accessories in Canada starting August 1.

The update will affect the entire current Switch lineup, including the original model, the OLED version, and the Switch Lite. Both physical and digital games, as well as accessories like controllers, will see price changes. Other Nintendo products, such as amiibo and Switch Online memberships, are also included in the update.

However, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and any related products will not be part of this price adjustment.

Nintendo says the new Canadian prices will be posted on its official website on August 1 via its online store.

It’s unclear if prices are going down or up, but this seems like a teaser to say prices are going up as it mentions “based on market conditions.” We’ve already seen Xbox prices go up in Canada in March–will Nintendo’s older hardware and games go up too?

Are they doing this just because of the US tariffs? Which is a terrible thing to do IMO.

US tariffs have nothing to do with Canada, they only impact Americans.

Canada didn’t impose new tariffs on any other country aside from the ones we put on the US so unless the Nintendo devices are made in the US (they aren’t) this has nothing to do with tariffs.

There has be examples of companies raising prices in Canada because of US Tariffs in order to reach price parity between Canada and the US. Leica is a good example of this.

That’s the exception and not the rule.

Most companies don’t want to raise prices if they don’t have to. I guess Leica doesn’t do enough business in Canada to make it worth their while – that’s just them being a terrible company and doesn’t change the fact that the US raising prices on foreign goods doesn’t impact us.
