Montreal Drivers Told to Switch to New Parking App Before July 31 [Update]

Montreal’s parking agency is phasing out its current mobile app and asking drivers to download a new one before the end of July. Update July 15: Agence de mobilité durable de Montréal has confirmed with us July 28 as the final end date.

The P$ Mobile Service app will stop working on July 31, and drivers are being told to switch to Mobicité (developed by Mirego), the new iOS and Android app launched by the Agence de mobilité durable de Montréal.

The new app, available on the App Store and Google Play, allows users to pay for parking on Montreal streets and in some lots using their smartphones. It charges a 7¢ service fee per transaction, which the agency says goes toward maintaining the app. This is the same fee per transaction that was also in the old app.

Users of the old P$ app won’t have their data automatically moved to Mobicité, and will need to create a new account.

Anyone wanting a record of their past parking history must log into the old account on the agency’s website and download their transaction history before December 15, 2025. After that, all P$ app data will be inaccessible.

“With Mobicité, we are acquiring a real asset that supports our mission: making space-sharing more equitable and improving accessibility across the city for everyone,” said the agency in a statement.

The new app offers features such as viewing remaining parking time, managing multiple credit cards, and getting a 10-minute warning before a session ends. A web version is expected to launch later.

The P$ Mobile Service app, developed by Passport for the Agence de mobilité durable de Montréal, has faced criticism for technical issues like 4G connectivity problems and error messages and app crashes, as well as limitations such as the inability to extend parking sessions and underdeveloped features like location data. So how to fix this? Drop money to create a new app instead.

For now, drivers still using the old P$ Mobile Service app have until July 31 to make the switch.

Update July 7, 2025: Agence de mobilité durable de Montréal told iPhone in Canada the P$ Service mobile app was not developed by the Agence, as previously stated. It was created by Passport. The new Mobicité app is developed by Mirego. Also, the 7¢ transaction fee applies to both apps, not just Mobicité. This story has been updated.

Why is it a different app? They could have just pushed it as a new update

There are enough new features, like the interactive map and the ability to pay for multiple parking spots, that may explain having to start from a clean slate instead of a retrofit.

I’ve never had much issues with the P$ app; I could extend my parking just fine. If the comments are true that it was considered that buggy, it would make little sense to try and retrofit it into a code base that you are also spending your time fanning out the flames. A clean slate can definitely be a much more sustainable and cost-effective, despite the author’s perceptions.

Considering the marketing push under the new name I am seeing in the city, this could be an opportunity to promote and encourage wider adoption for those who abandoned the original app or who have never downloaded it.

A clean slate can be pushed as an update, it doesn’t justify an entirely new app download.

Another way to squeeze money out of nothing. ¢7 per transaction just to maintain the app?! Even with a conservative estimate of 100K transactions per day, that's nearly $3 million a year. Does it really cost that much to occasionally fix bugs in an app that was already well paid for during development?

Why they don't even show a message in the old app to switch?
They already raised the rate to 4.25$ per hour, that's more than enough to pay for the maintaining the app.
