Google Hikes Nest Aware Price in Canada Again, This Time 30%

Google is once again raising the price of its Nest Aware Plus subscription in Canada—this time from $200 to $260 per year, starting August 15, 2025. That’s a price hike of 30% and is the second price jump in 18 months.

The increase comes less than two years after the company already bumped the price from $160 to $200 in February 2024 (25% increase). The service offers 60 days of event video history, up to 10 days of continuous recording, and smart alerts—but no new features are being added with this price hike.

In an email to customers obtained by iPhone in Canada, Google said, “Your Nest Aware subscription will continue at this new price and your current benefits will remain the same.” Users have 30 days from the date the new rate kicks in to cancel without penalty.

The move adds to growing frustration among long-time Nest users, who are now paying 62.5% more per year than they were just two years ago—with little to show for it beyond a larger bill. The online Nest forums are pretty busy right now with people angry about the price increase.

Users can cancel or manage their subscription via the Google Store or Help Centre.

The Google website for Nest Aware already shows the price increase for new customers:

  • Nest Aware: $13/month; $130/year
  • Nest Aware Plus: $26/month; $260/year

The basic Nest Aware lacks 24/7 video history for up to 10 days. That’s an important feature to have and is only available on the more expensive Plus plan. So for Nest Aware users, your pricing has jumped 63% in the past 18 months. That’s going to hurt the wallet.

I dropped Nest Aware+ many years ago when i realized that UNIFI allows you to store all the video at home and that has the bonus of not uploading/downloading to cloud servers. Yes, unifi can be expensive but you have it forever. You can also access it from anywhere in the world at any time. It does not have some functionality but you don't need it. There hardware works anywhere in Canada. I was concerned that the doorbell/camera has a limit in cold weather but i have -40C temps and it is fine.

Tell Google to go to… and buy unifi hardware and setup what you need. it won't cost more than 2 or 3 years of aware+.

Never understood people being convinced to pay for data harvesting services. The service ends up being paid twice. That’s like paying to watch ads.
