Apple News+ Adds Emoji Game as Daily Puzzle in Canada, Available Today

Apple has announced that Emoji Game is being added to its Apple News+ subscription service as the company celebrates World Emoji Day. The original word game is available on Apple News+ in Canada and the US starting today.
Emoji Game is similar in a lot of ways to word puzzles like Wheel of Fortune or even The New York Times’ Wordle. Players are tasked to complete phrases and words by dragging emojis and Genmojis into blank spots.
In Emoji Game, players will be taken through a tutorial, where the game asks players to complete phrases by using emojis. By dragging and dropping an emoji into the phrase line, players can complete the puzzle. Each day, players will receive a new puzzle in which they must solve around six words or phrases.
When logging in, players will be met with a series of broken phrases with blank spots that need to be filled. The idea is to play the game and complete a round in as few “moves” as possible. One drag constitutes a move. On the bottom of the screen, Emoji Game provides a series of emojis or a singular emoji to be used to complete the phrase. These emojis can be used literally, but most time, have multiple meanings.
For instance, an onscreen example I was shown was to complete the phrase with a hint, “Margot Robbie costar who sang ‘I’m Just Ken.” The clue on screen was “R_ _ _ _ o_ _ _ _.” The Yin Yang emoji was used as “Yang,” while the football emoji next to the wind emoji and an open hand created the word “Sling.” Putting these together within the blank spots, it was unsurprisingly determined that the answer was “Ryan Gosling.”
Some puzzles can be more difficult to complete in a move or two. These require more interpretations from the combinations of emojis than what’s shown at face value. Figuring out the puzzle in as few moves as possible, you’ll be given a score that’ll be achieved within your account for bragging rights (or history of shame).
It’s clear Apple is attempting to target the Wordle community, the game which took over the world back in 2021. The New York Times then acquired the browser-based game in 2022, integrating it into its website, and then later added it to the New York Times Crossword app.
Apple News+ has access to over 400 titles, audio stories, and a handful of daily puzzle games to play. This is the fifth daily puzzle available as part of Apple News+ Emoji Game joins Crossword, Crossword Mini, Sudoku and Quartles.
Emoji Gam is available on iOS starting today through the Apple News+ app.
