Apple’s Foldable iPhone Will Copy Samsung; iPad Pro Gets 2 Cameras: Report

Apple is gearing up to join the foldable phone market for the first time when it launches a foldable iPhone at the end of 2026.

As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman explained in his PowerOn newsletter yesterday, this won’t be some radically new gadget—Apple is essentially copying the playbook that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has refined over the past seven years. The new iPhone will fold open to a larger inner screen made with OLED panels from Samsung Display, and Apple’s engineers are focused on making the crease in the middle far less obvious and building a smoother, more durable hinge.

Behind the scenes, Apple is already working on iOS 27 so that the software takes full advantage of the folding form factor. Apps will automatically adjust when you open or close the device, and split-screen multitasking should feel more seamless.

At a starting price of around $2,000 US (about $2,750 CAD; some say it might be $2,500 USD), the foldable iPhone also gives Apple a straightforward way to boost revenue—even if they don’t sell as many units as their regular models.

iPad Pro Will Get Dual Front Cameras for Portrait and Landscape

Right after rolling out its M4 iPad Pro—which got thinner and finally moved the front camera to landscape mode—Apple is planning a small but handy tweak for the next M5 model.

Gurman reports that the new iPad Pro will add a second, portrait-side front camera, so you can use FaceTime or take selfies easily whether you’re holding the tablet vertically or horizontally.

When the M4 iPad Pro landed in May 2024, landscape-mode users cheered that Face ID and video calls worked without having to rotate the device. But if you flipped it back to portrait, unlocking and camera use became awkward. The dual-camera fix isn’t earth-shattering, but it’s a nice nod to real-world use—one that blends into the bezel when you’re not using it.

Apple likely can’t copy the form factor of huawei’s pura X – which I think is a better. Too bad.
