Apple has introduced a brand-new ringtone option in the iOS 26 public beta, appearing in the “Alt 1” version of Reflection, and can be selected within the Sounds & Haptics section in Settings (via 9to5Mac).
The default ringtone has been an iconic part of the iPhone experience. With the latest beta version, Apple is now giving early testers the ability to choose a subtle variation of its Reflection tone. The newly added tone, labeled “Alt 1,” brings a mellower, more “glassy” sound quality that some users have described as soothing.
Users can find the new option by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone > Reflection, where the “Alt 1” version is listed alongside the original. At this stage, the new ringtone must be selected manually, though it may become the default in future iOS 26 releases.
Discussion about the ringtone on Reddit reveals mixed opinions. A user noted the tone sounds somewhat like a personal nightmare theme, while others praised its calming vibe. One popular comment described it simply as “glassy,” illustrating the tonal shift clearly.
It’s unclear if “Alt 1” is the permanent name, or just a placeholder during testing. Apple may adjust the label or even replace the original Reflection tone entirely by the final public release. Until then, users can enjoy both options.
This update coincides with the first public beta release of iOS 26, which showcases Apple’s new Liquid Glass interface, revamped Phone app, enhancements to CarPlay, Apple Music, and Wallet, along with a redesigned Dialer experience.
For many long-time iPhone users, the option to switch to a slightly different tone without compromising familiarity could feel like a welcome change.
