Good2Go Customers Get Free Lucky Mobile Switch Before 3G Shutdown

Good2Go Mobile customers are being urged to act before August 31, 2025, as Canada’s aging 3G networks are officially being shut down.

The wireless provider, a subsidiary of Ztar Wireless, says customers with older phones relying on 3G will lose service unless they switch to a newer network. To keep people connected, Good2Go is offering a free SIM card through Lucky Mobile, which runs on Bell’s 4G LTE network.

Subscribers can keep their current phone numbers but will lose any unused account balance when switching. Good2Go is encouraging customers to upgrade to LTE-compatible devices and activate their Lucky Mobile SIM cards before the end of August. Good2Go touted Lucky Mobile plans starting from $19/month.

The transition comes just weeks after a public regulatory battle between Ztar and Rogers. In filings to the CRTC, Ztar accused Rogers of trying to force it out of the market by denying access to modern LTE and VoLTE services, while offering those same features to its own discount brand, Chatr. Ztar also said Rogers gave short notice of disconnection while it was still migrating customers to a new network, leaving it scrambling to avoid service blackouts.

Ztar’s president, Kevin Haddad, warned that the Rogers disconnection would cause irreversible harm to its customers, many of whom rely on low-cost prepaid services sold at places like 7-Eleven and Dollarama. Meanwhile, Rogers claimed Ztar failed to pay its bills and had plenty of time to plan a transition. The telecom giant also said keeping Ztar connected would interfere with its own plans to retire its 3G network.

The Rogers 3G network will sunset on July 31, 2025. Any customers still using 3G after the fact may be dinged a $75 fee.

Now, Good2Go is among the Ztar-backed providers trying to ensure their users don’t lose service. The free SIM partnership with Lucky Mobile is intended to prevent disruption for thousands of Canadians who may not even know their network is shutting down.

Customers can get more information from Good2Go or Lucky Mobile directly. Switching to Lucky may take up to 48 hours, and users are urged to act before the August deadline.

Other Ztar brands are also affected, including Speakout Wireless which is found at 7-Eleven. Speakout Wireless is telling customers starting August 1, 2025, Canada’s 3G (HSPA) networks will be officially shut down. Speakout says they are getting ready to move to a new network, with more information coming soon. The upgrade will bring better coverage and improved service for customers.

This is gonna double my annual phone bill, minimum. I hardly ever use my phone, because I always use email or chat on Customer Service things. Filthy bastards. SpeakOut isn't telling us if they intend to come back and exist again. With SpeakOut all of your top ups last 365 days. Instead of just 30 days. They are literally the cheapest cell phone you can get. This is not what I call competent regulation in addition to the obvious malfeasance by Rogers.

If you noticed everything is 3x more expensive now for cell service, Rogers knew…
