Apple Manufacturing Academy to Launch in Detroit on August 19
Apple is set to open its Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit on August 19, 2025, introducing free training sessions and expert consultation for small and medium‑sized U.S. manufacturers.

The initiative is part of Apple’s broader plan to invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Sabih Khan noted that the academy will help companies improve operations using smart manufacturing techniques and artificial intelligence.
The Detroit academy, hosted in collaboration with Michigan State University, kicks off with a two‑day in‑person event on August 19–20. Workshops will feature Apple engineers and MSU experts guiding businesses in implementing machine learning, deep learning, automation, data analytics to boost product quality, and integrating digital technologies into manufacturing workflows.
Beyond the August launch event, Apple engineers are already providing virtual and in‑person consultations to help U.S. suppliers enhance their supply chains, productivity, and operational quality. Later in 2025, the academy plans to roll out virtual programming aimed at teaching essential skills.
This new academy builds on Apple’s February commitment to invest over $500 billion across the U.S. by 2029, as part of its efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing, infrastructure, and workforce development. Apple sees AI‑driven “smart manufacturing” as a path to revitalize U.S. production capabilities.

Unlike calls for Apple to reshore iPhone production, which analysts say remains impractical at scale, the academy aims to equip American businesses to lead in next‑generation manufacturing.
By offering free access to Apple’s technical expertise and university‑level instruction, small and medium enterprises across all 50 states can build skills in digital manufacturing, data use, process optimization, and AI.
