OpenAI Teases Big Reveal—Could This Be GPT-5?
OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, have teased a livestream event comign set for Thursday, August 7, 2025.
“LIVE5TREAM THURSDAY 10AM PT,” teased OpenAI on X on Wednesday morning. You’ll notice the “S” is represented by a “5”, hinting at the release of GPT-5. That’s a 1pm ET event for those on the east coast.
Yesterday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, “we have a lot of new stuff for you over the next few days! something big-but-small today.” That’s when the company released its latest AI models for anyone to use on their own devices, including on AWS.
“And then a big upgrade later this week,” added Altman, which now leads us to this other big teaser. It’s likely the debut of the GPT-5 model.
OpenAI’s GPT-5, codenamed Orion, is said to bring major advancements in reasoning, multimodal capabilities (text, images, video), and reduced hallucinations. Altman has expressed concerns about its rapid development, comparing it to the Manhattan Project, speaking on Theo Von’s ‘This Past Weekend’ podcast.
