Starlink Extends Free Internet to Canadians Affected by August Wildfires
SpaceX’s Starlink is once again offering free internet service to Canadians dealing with wildfires, extending its wildfire relief program into mid-August.
Tesla North reports according to an update posted on Starlink’s website, existing active customers in affected areas will automatically get a one-month service credit—no action required. For those who had previously cancelled or paused their plans, Starlink is applying credits equal to their old service cost so they can reactivate during the crisis.
New customers in fire-impacted regions who purchase a Starlink kit can also get free service through September 15, 2025, by contacting support. And if wildfire damage has destroyed equipment, the company says it will replace kits at no cost.
This marks the second time this summer that Starlink has stepped in to help Canadians. In June, the company offered a similar one-month credit during earlier wildfires. Starlink uses low-Earth satellites that allow customers to stay connected when regular land-based towers and fibre lines catch on fire.
Beyond Canada, Starlink has been active in other disaster zones too. Over the weekend, it confirmed support for emergency operations in Cape Verde (off the west coast of Africa) after a devastating storm, and last month it assisted during flooding in Texas.
Right now, Starlink has a promo offering 50% off hardware in Canada and discounted monthly plans for Canadians. Check the Starlink website to see if you’re eligible.
