Apple Releases iOS 18.6.2 and 17.7.10 to Fix Major Security Flaw
Apple has rolled out new software updates—iOS 18.6.2 for iPhone and iPad, and iOS 17.7.10 (Build 21H450) for certain older iPads. The company says the patches address a serious security issue that may have already been used in targeted attacks.
According to Apple’s security bulletin, the update is available for:
- iPhone XS and later
- iPad Pro 13-inch
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and newer)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and newer)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and newer)
- iPad 7th generation and newer
- iPad mini 5th generation and newer
For older models, iOS 17.7.10 is now live for devices like the iPad Pro 2 (12.9″ Wi-Fi and Cellular), iPad Pro (10.5″ Wi-Fi and Cellular), and the iPad 6 (Wi-Fi and Cellular).
The problem comes from how Apple devices handle image files. Apple explains: “Processing a malicious image file may result in memory corruption. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”
Apple says the flaw was caused by an “out-of-bounds write issue” and has now been fixed with “improved bounds checking.”
If you’ve got an iPhone or iPad, the takeaway is simple: update as soon as possible. Head over to Settings > General > Software Update on your device to install these security updates right away. The release just happens to coincide with the Made by Google event, and is Apple’s way of taking away some of the limelight from today’s major Pixel announcements.

Patch (sorry….'update') for MacOS (15.6.1) as well.
