Dyson V16 Piston Animal’s is the Most Innovative Vaccum I’ve Gone Hands-On With

I recently got a chance to check out Dyson’s new device lineup. The company, which continues to innovate in cordless vacuums, air purifiers, and other daily products, is launching its new V16 Piston Animal series, available starting today.

I’ve long been a routine user of Dyson’s vacuums. Between my 360 Vis Nav and my admittedly older V7, I’ve yet to be pulled out of the Dyson ecosystem when it comes to caring for my hardwood floors and carpets. Dyson intends to make its vacuum lineup even more attractive with the introduction of the V16 Piston Animal. In a hands-on preview of the device, Dyson calls it the “most powerful anti-tangle cordless vacuum.”

One of the major pain points of using Dyson vacuums or any vacuum, for this matter, is having to deal with hair and other debris getting caught up in the head. I can’t begin to recount how many times I’ve had to take apart my V7 or flip my 360 Vis Nav over to address this problem. Whether I go in to remove tangled hair myself or go at with scissors, it’s an unpleasant experience every single time. The V16 Piston Animal ensures this is a problem of the past.

One of the newest innovations arriving with the V16 Piston Animal is the newly designed All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head. With dual conical brush bars installed, the V16 Piston Animal is able to eject long hair from itself and into the dirt canister. The new conical technology prevents hair from wrapping up on itself and getting tangled entirely. It does this through the cone-shaped design, which migrates hair from the thicker middle area of the bar to the thinner outer ends. Hair is then sucked up and stored in the bin, where users can empty it into the garbage.

All Floor Cones Sense cleaner heads can be used on different floor types. Dyson ensures that it can intelligently adapt when users go from one type of floor to another. For instance, the V16 Piston Animal automatically adjusts suction and brush bar rotation speeds when going from tile (where grout lines may need more attention) to hardwood. Acoustics are also something that is addressed by the V16 Piston Animal when navigating different surfaces. This is all coupled by the return of the LED illumination tech, which reveals nearly invisible dust on the floor while cleaning.

V16 Piston Animal incorporates a new Hyperdymium 900W motor, providing 315AW of fade-free suction. This is an important feature considering that the All Floor Cones Sense cleaner heads also work on carpets. Combining the “high performance” of the Dyson Digital Motorbar on carpets and Dyson Fluffy cleaner heads on hard floors, the V16 Piston Animal becomes an all-in-one vacuum for around the home.

Dyson’s V16 Piston Animal not only introduce a new cleaner head. The vacuum also incorporates a brand new CleanCompaktor bin. Unlike previous models, the V16 Piston Animal has dust compression technology built in to drastically increase the bin’s capacity. With a new hinge and compressor built into the bin, the V16 Piston Animal is able to store three times as much dust and debris as previous models. The interior of the bin has also been redesigned so all surfaces are able to be wiped clean as you empty it.

Finally, V16 Piston Animal includes compatibility with the MyDyson app. Here, users will be able to control additional settings remotely. Dyson ensures users will get real-time alerts when maintenance is required, such as having to replace filters. Users will also find step-by-step guidance on how to clean or perform maintenance on the device.

V16 Piston Animal launches September 4 for $1,099.99 in Canada.
