Camera Shootout: iPhone 17 Pro Max vs Galaxy S25 Ultra [VIDEO]
With the release of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the rivalry between Apple and Samsung has once again come to the forefront. YouTuber SuperSaf has just put Apple’s flagship phone head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in an in-depth camera test.

The comparison takes a look at the zoom performance, color science, detail handling, and video capabilities of the two smartphones. The results show two flagship devices with different strengths depending on how you use your camera.
Zoom is where Samsung continues to flex its hardware advantage. The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 50MP telephoto camera with 5× optical zoom that delivers exceptional detail when you push beyond 10×. Images remain sharp and clear even at higher magnifications, making it ideal for wildlife, sports, or cityscapes from afar.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has made significant improvements in mid-range zoom performance, particularly around 4× to 8×, where it often matches or even outperforms Samsung. Fine textures, text clarity, and color balance look excellent at these levels. However, at extreme zoom distances the iPhone relies more heavily on digital cropping, which leads to softer results compared to Samsung’s hardware-driven approach.
Color rendering is another area where the two phones take different approaches. The Galaxy S25 Ultra favors vibrant, cooler tones that make images pop, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max delivers warmer, more natural colors. For portraits and skin tones, Apple’s processing usually looks closer to real life.
In bright outdoor conditions, both devices produce stellar results. Samsung tends to capture slightly more detail in textures such as bricks, grass, or distant landscapes, especially when zoomed in.

When the sun goes down, the differences become more noticeable. Samsung’s aggressive noise reduction keeps images cleaner, especially at longer zoom ranges in very dark environments. The trade-off is that some of the finer textures get smoothed out. Apple, on the other hand, preserves more of that texture but introduces a touch more visible noise.
Video remains a stronghold for Apple. The iPhone 17 Pro Max offers exceptional stabilization, natural colors, and smooth footage that has long made it the go-to for mobile creators. Samsung is no slouch and still takes the crown when it comes to zoomed-in video.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra are both outstanding camera phones, but they shine in different scenarios. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the clear winner for extreme zoom shots and detailed long-range photography. The iPhone 17 Pro Max holds its ground in mid-zoom and delivers more natural colors.
It must be noted that Samsung’s new flaghsip Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to launch in January 2026, which could very well outperform the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Till that happens, check out the following video and let us know what you think in the comments section.
