Public Mobile RCS Issues Fixed, Troubleshooting Steps Shared

Public Mobile says the RCS activation issue affecting some of its customers has now been resolved.

The problem began after the launch of Apple’s iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, when many users switched to eSIMs. Some Android customers were also impacted.

In an update posted today, September 24, Telus-owned Public Mobile said the issue is fixed, but shared troubleshooting steps for those who may still be experiencing problems.

For iPhone users, you can nuke and reset network settings by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This clears saved Wi-Fi networks, passwords, cellular settings, and Bluetooth pairings, but does not delete personal data.

On Android, steps include clearing cache and data in Google Messages (Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage > Clear Cache), force stopping the app, or logging out and back in to RCS Chats by toggling the feature off, restarting the device, and turning it back on again.

Public Mobile says customers should try these steps if RCS still isn’t working, though standard SMS and MMS were never affected during the outage. Let us know if your RCS is working again on Public Mobile by now or not in the comments.
