Wealthsimple Launches Free iPhone 17 Promo—How to Qualify

Toronto-based Wealthsimple is dangling Apple’s newest iPhone 17 as bait to get your paycheque.

The company has launched a promotion where invited customers can get a 256GB iPhone 17 ($1,129 value) at no upfront cost if they set up direct deposit of at least $4,000 a month into a Wealthsimple account—and keep it there for three years. Stop the deposits before then, and you’ll be billed for the remaining value of the phone.

The deal isn’t open to everyone, however. It’s by invitation only, excludes Quebec, and applies to existing Wealthsimple chequing and investing customers in good standing. Those who got last year’s iPhone 16 offer aren’t automatically upgraded. If do get invited and you do have a direct deposit that’s eligible to switch over, getting a free iPhone 17 is nice perk if you commit to three years of deposits (that’s $376/year in value).

The phone itself is unlocked, but Wealthsimple won’t cover your monthly cellphone plan of course, AppleCare, or any extras.

This isn’t the first time Wealthsimple has launched free iPhone promos. Back in the summer they offered another free iPhone 16 promo, similarly tied to direct deposits. But time it’s for the newest iPhone 17 instead. Let us know if you got an invite for this direct deposit promo.

Click here to sign up for Wealthsimple and get $25 free with your first deposit.

Why no Quebec? Not like the phones aren’t bilingual.

Quebec has very different and more complex lottery and giveaway rules.

So? Follow them. Also this is neither a lottery nor a giveaway, it’s a transaction.

Nobody wants to jump through the hoops the Quebec government has put in place. Don’t blame companies for this. Blame your elected representatives for making it so unpalatable for companies to follow the rules for whatever the population is.

Wrong. Everyone SHOILD jump through the hoops put into lace. They exist to guarantee the prize and rules. Don’t accept being defrauded because you don’t know betterZ

Wrong. The rules in place protect consumers. Blame companies for refusing to guarantee their prizes, that the winner will actually receive it and be transparent in their prize awarding process. The rules are not unpalatable, the companies that refuse to follow them are questionable.
