Rogers’ Sportsnet+ App Melts Down as Blue Jays Suffer Game 7 Heartbreak

It was heartbreak (definitely an understatement) for Toronto fans on multiple fronts Saturday night, as the Blue Jays lost Game 7 of the World Series in extra innings — and thousands of viewers saw the game vanish midstream when Rogers’ Sportsnet+ crashed (again).

The Jays fell 5–4 in the 11th inning to the Los Angeles Dodgers after a dramatic comeback by L.A., ending Toronto’s bid for its first championship since 1993. But many fans didn’t see the finish — Sportsnet+ (owned by Rogers) collapsed in the middle of the broadcast, again like it did in Game 4.

On X, furious Sportsnet+ subscribers vented angrily and panicked in real time as the stream went down during the critical 7th inning of Game 7. There’s nothing worse than having your stream go down in a Game 7, with error messages blaming your internet connection when it’s not the truth.

“The @Sportsnetapp is pure garbage. Worst streaming service by a country mile,” wrote @SteveSaretsky. “My @Sportsnetapp just crashed in the 7th inning of World Series Game 7. This is the most Rogers f**king thing imaginable,” said @Fraserburn. @purdy44 added, “Having your streaming app go down in the 7th inning of Game 7 of the World Series at ROGERS Centre, home of the team YOU F**KING OWN.”

“$35 a month and your f**king app crashes in the 7th inning of the world series. F**k you @Sportsnet,” posted @gurl1975. “So I’m watching one of the biggest sporting events in Canada ever… until my @Sportsnetapp craps out at probably the worst time,” said @CamHolmstrom. “This is probably the most Rogers thing ever.”

Others echoed similar frustration, calling for refunds or even legal action. “Class action suit coming against @Sportsnetapp,” wrote @mlnadler. “30% price increase and feed crashes at the worst times.”

The outage mirrored a smaller one earlier in the series, when the Sportsnet+ app briefly went down during Game 4. At that time, users across B.C., Alberta, and Ontario said the app displayed error messages like “We have detected an issue with your network (Code 22)” despite working internet connections.

While the stream went down, Rogers again directed subscribers to a free web link on Sportsnet.ca to watch the stream from a mobile or desktop browser, as shared by readers:

Saturday’s meltdown stung even more, coming as both the Jays — and Rogers — found themselves on the biggest stage in Canadian sports in more than 30 years. For many fans, it felt like a fitting, if painful, metaphor: the Blue Jays went down swinging, and so did Rogers’ streaming service. At least the end of Daylight Saving Time gave everyone an extra hour to sleep off the heartbreak. That was one of the best World Series’ we’ve seen and it was pure cinema. Hats off to the Dodgers, but an even greater congrats to the Blue Jays for an unreal season.

II was the Eastern feed of Sportsnet East for the ball game last night and on my big screen TV I had no issue watching the Blue Jays blues in the Extra innings I had no feed issue on my fivfibe TV app. Of course I was on Bell network in Ontario

And they wonder why people are once again sailing the open seas in large numbers…

Might as well add that to the class action lawsuit. These outages keep happening at the worst possible times. It's never a Monday at 1AM, it's always a Friday all day or Saturday evening, what's next? Superbowl Sunday?

Just pay less money for basic American major network channels and watch it on Fox. You don't get the Canadian commentary unfortunately but at least it works fine. It was also broadcast on CTV nationally in Canada. No need for SportsNet
