Rogers Hikes Sportsnet+ Price by 30%—and Fans are Furious
Canadian hockey fans are fuming after Sportsnet quietly announced a steep 30% price hike for its Sportsnet+ Premium annual subscription, up $75. Starting September 9, 2025, the cost jumps from $249.99 to $324.99 per year, plus tax.
“This change will be reflected on your next billing date… unless you cancel or modify your subscription before then,” read the boilerplate email sent to users.
The move sparked immediate backlash across Reddit, particularly in r/hockey, where top-voted comments slammed the price hike for a service that many say already delivers a frustrating user experience. “30% is an outright middle finger to the existing subscriber base,” wrote one user.
“The app is already so $hit… jumping that much is criminal,” added another.
Many pointed out that the price has now increased over 60% in two years, up from $199.99 in 2024, despite the service still streaming in 720p and offering limited game access due to blackouts. Check out the email below shared on Reddit:
Others suggested Rogers, which owns Sportsnet, may be trying to compensate for losing streaming rights like WWE (now on Netflix) and possibly offloading games to Amazon again.
Some fans reported they couldn’t even access their account settings to cancel—likely due to the sheer volume of subscribers bailing. “The servers are getting stress tested by folks cancelling,” one joked.

Rogers quietly hiked its connection fee again this week—the second increase in a year—raising it from $75 to $80 for customers who activate or renew a line with help from a rep. Online activations remain free. Guess someone’s gotta help cover that $11 billion NHL streaming deal.
