Rogers Customer Says Wireless Price Increase Came Out of Nowhere
A Rogers customer says they were surprised to see a $5 monthly price increase added to their wireless plan after being on the same plan for about five years.
In a post on Reddit’s r/Rogers subreddit, the customer shared a notice included on their bill from Rogers, stating that the company will raise the monthly fee by $5 plus tax starting with their next bill on or after June 17, 2025. The notice says the customer’s service will stay the same and links the increase to ongoing network investments.
The customer said they are on a bring-your-own-device plan, pay month to month, and are not under contract, but questioned whether Rogers can raise prices so suddenly and whether calling customer service could help reduce or remove the increase.
Other Reddit users responded that price increases are common in Canada, especially for customers who are not under contract. Several commenters said carriers are allowed to raise rates as long as notice is provided, even for customers on contracts, though discounts may be applied to offset increases until a term ends.
Some users suggested calling Rogers to negotiate, asking for credits or extra data, or switching providers entirely. Others said porting out and waiting for a winback offer can sometimes result in a better deal, though there’s no guarantee.
Several commenters also pointed out that Freedom Mobile is one of the few carriers that advertises price freezes, which some users said is why they’ve switched or are considering switching.
Rogers’ notice states that customers who no longer wish to continue service can cancel, and that the increase is permitted under the terms of service. Your best bet to stay ahead of these wireless price increases is to always check the fine print and notices on your monthly bill.

I had a $3 increase at the end of Jan and another $5 increase this month i.e. in less than 1 year. They need to legislate against this kind of biat & switch where Rogers and other carriers offer you a price when you sign up but it doesn't even last year.
Yup had a price increase with no notice. Called cs and we went through 5 months of bills and there was no notification so the refunded me.
Seeing as how cellular use is not a luxury anymore and is indeed a utility it should be reflected as such, random price increases should not happen with out notification well in advance. $5 isn't much, and many people can find that kind of cash under their car seat, but yes indeed it will add up after 12 months, let alone 24-36 months.
I just signed up for Bell few months ago, they charged me an Activation fee which they credit 5$/month for 24 months. Despite this they increased all my 5 lines by $5 /month. Freedom here I come.
