ChatGPT Rolls Out ‘Your Year’ Recap in Canada

OpenAI is rolling out a new year-end feature for ChatGPT users, and it’s one that feels instantly familiar. Dubbed “Your Year with ChatGPT,” the experience is essentially OpenAI’s take on Spotify Wrapped, offering users a personalized recap of how they used the chatbot throughout the year — complete with visuals, awards, and creative summaries.
“Your Year with ChatGPT” is available now in select markets, including Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand. “If you’re in one of the countries above, check back throughout the day to see if “Your Year with ChatGPT” has rolled out to you,” OpenAI said on X, noting that users should ensure their app is updated to see it. “You can also try adding the “Your Year with ChatGPT” app by tapping the + sign and asking Chat, “show me my year with ChatGPT.”
The feature is available to users on free, Plus, and Pro plans, as long as they’ve enabled both “reference saved memories” and “reference chat history” and met a minimum usage threshold. Team, Enterprise, and Education accounts are excluded, with OpenAI emphasizing that the recap is designed to be “lightweight, privacy-forward, and user-controlled.”
Much like Spotify Wrapped, the experience leans heavily into personalization. ChatGPT assigns playful “awards” based on how you interacted with the AI over the year. For example, users who leaned on the chatbot for problem-solving or ideation might receive a title like “Creative Debugger.” The recap also generates a poem and an image reflecting your interests and usage patterns — a creative flourish that underscores how central generative AI has become to many users’ daily workflows.
OpenAI says the recap won’t automatically pop up or force itself on users. Instead, it’s promoted on the ChatGPT home screen and can also be triggered manually by asking ChatGPT to show you “Your Year with ChatGPT.” The feature is accessible across the web app and on iOS and Android.
The timing makes sense. ChatGPT recently topped App Store downloads in the U.S. for 2025, and OpenAI has been steadily shipping consumer-friendly features throughout the year, including a new shopping tool timed for Black Friday. Earlier this month, the company also unveiled its biggest upgrade yet with the launch of GPT-5.2, setting the stage for what could be a massive 2026 as OpenAI reportedly eyes a blockbuster IPO.
As the year winds down, “Your Year with ChatGPT” feels like a natural way for OpenAI to showcase just how embedded its chatbot has become in people’s lives — while borrowing a proven engagement playbook from the streaming world.
