Apple HomeKit and Matter Support Come to More Roomba Vacuums

iRobot has quietly expanded Matter support across more of its Roomba lineup, bringing Apple HomeKit compatibility to additional robot vacuums through a new firmware update. The update was first spotted by users on Reddit, who reported that multiple Roomba models now work with Apple Home through the Matter smart home standard (via 9to5Mac).

With the latest firmware, iRobot’s official list of Matter-compatible devices now includes the Roomba Plus 500 Combo, Roomba Max 700 Vac, Roomba Max 700 Combo, and Roomba Combo 10 Max. Thanks to Matter, these models can now be added directly to Apple Home on devices running iOS 18.4 or later, allowing users to control their vacuums using the Home app or Siri.

Once connected, users can perform basic actions like starting or stopping a cleaning session, scheduling cleanings, or integrating Roomba routines into existing HomeKit automations. Apple Home is one of a growing list of Matter ecosystems, alongside Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. Apple started rolling out robot vacuum support for HomeKit this year, following earlier delays.

The timing of the update is notable. As reported earlier this month, iRobot filed for bankruptcy protection after years of financial struggles, following a failed acquisition attempt by Amazon that was blocked by regulators. As part of the restructuring process, the company is set to be acquired by Shenzhen Picea Robotics Co., a Chinese-owned firm that had an existing relationship with iRobot. Despite that uncertainty, the expanded Matter and HomeKit support suggests iRobot is still pushing forward with software updates for its installed base.

According to iRobot, Roombas connected to Wi-Fi will automatically download and install new firmware when docked to their Home Base, although it can take up to 24 hours for updates to roll out. Adding a compatible Roomba to Apple Home is done directly through the Roomba app under Connected Services, where users can link the device to Apple Home and manage it from there going forward.

For Apple users who have been waiting for deeper robot vacuum integration, this update makes several more Roomba models far more appealing, even as iRobot navigates a turbulent period for the company.
