Rockstar Games Gives Terminally Ill Canadian Early Access to GTA 6

In heartfelt news, Rockstar Games is helping a terminally ill fan from Ontario gain early access to GTA 6 before its slated release later this year.
Last month, Anthony Armstrong, a developer at Ubisoft Toronto, began searching for connections on LinkedIn to contact Rockstar Games. Armstrong revealed that a family member has been battling cancer for quite some time. In the message, it’s explained that the family member is a massive fan of the GTA franchise but is heartbreakingly expected to have a few more months left to live.
“To any of my connections at Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto, or anyone else that may be able to help. A member of my family who has been battling cancer for years just recently got the worst possible news, he was given 6-12 months to live,” Armstrong wrote in a now-deleted post.
“The reason I’m reaching out is that they are a huge GTA fan and, with this latest update, he may not be around long enough to actually get to see GTA 6 launch, best case scenario he will be leaving us the same month it does. He currently lives only a stones throw from the Oakville studio, so its my hope that one of you may be able to set up an exclusive playtest, so he can have a chance to experience the game, before passing.”
Following this initial message, Armstrong followed up with another post stating that publisher Take-Two’s CEO reached out and he was awaiting confirmation with Rockstar Games. According to Insider Gaming, Armstrong’s final update revealed that he spoke to Rockstar Games and “got great news.” While not outright stating that his family member was gaining early access to GTA 6, the signs are looking pretty positive for the fan who is tragically battling such an awful illness.
GTA 6 is now slated to release on November 19th, 2026, after pushing its release from May 26. Last year, Take-Two cited the delay was to give “some additional time to finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve. Rockstar has our full support, of course, and we are confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience”.
