Apple Now Allows Customers More Customization When Building their New Mac

Apple has updated its website to allow for far more customization when purchasing a new Mac device. Rather than only offering a handful of pre-configured options, Apple now lets users build their device from the ground up.
The change was quietly made on the official Apple website, as first seen by Macworld. When going through the purchasing flow of a MacBook Pro, for instance, customers can not only select the colour, size, and the processor being used to power the device, but also now, Apple supports the option to choose display type, unified memory, SSD storage, power adapter, and keyboard.
With everything taken into consideration, here are all the available customization options when building a new MacBook Pro in Canada:
- Display size
- Colour
- Screen type
- Chip
- Processing power
- Unified memory
- SSD storage
- Power adapter
- Keyboard
- Pro apps
- Payment options
- AppleCare coverage
Apple hasn’t changed or included anything new for pre-existing options. When choosing a chipset, Apple still offers the M5 processor alongside the M4 Pro and M4 Max. Colour options remain the same as well for customers. The company also notes that prebuilds for every device are still available and can be purchased in stores.
When building a custom Mac, Apple’s delivery time updates in real time to reflect any potential postponements in fulfillment. Certain customization options may impact the delivery of your device.
With an updated configuration design, there may be new MacBook Pro upgrades on the horizon. As noted, the device is still leveraging the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. However, earlier reports indicate that Apple may begin offering M5 Pro and M5 Max chip devices as inventory of current models is selling out. Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman predicts that new versions of the MacBook Pro may be released alongside macOS 26.3, which is believed to be released in either February or March.
