Wealthsimple Named 2026 CIX Innovator of the Year After Massive Growth

Toronto fintech giant Wealthsimple has earned the 2026 CIX Innovator of the Year award following a year where it doubled its assets to more than $100 billion.

The company now serves over 3 million Canadians and has captured roughly 35 per cent of all First Home Savings Accounts opened across the country.

The award, presented by the National Angel Capital Organization, places Wealthsimple alongside past winners like Shopify and Lightspeed. It comes on the heels of a $750 million funding round in late 2025 that valued the company at $10 billion.

Beyond the numbers, the firm recently introduced 24/5 trading for U.S. stocks, launched a credit card, and acquired platforms Fey and Plenty to expand its reach. Wealthsimple CEO Mike Katchen is scheduled to accept the honour at the CIX Summit in Toronto on March 25.

“Wealthsimple shows the kind of bold execution this award celebrates,” said Elevate CEO Lisa Zarzeczny. She noted that the company’s focus on making financial tools more accessible is exactly what the Canadian industry needs.

The CIX Summit is supported by the federal government through Global Affairs Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency. Additional public backing comes from the Department of National Defence’s IDEaS program and the University of Toronto.

Just last week, Wealthsimple gave an updated timeline on previously promised features from last fall, which includes ending its massive credit card waitlist. You can sign up for Wealthsimple here and get a $25 bonus free.
