Get Paid Interac Cash to Charge Your Tesla: WattsApp is Now Live

Tesla owners across Canada are finding out they can actually earn money back just by plugging in their cars at home. Following a highly successful testing phase that saw massive community interest, the WattsApp rewards platform is now officially live.

The Toronto-based team originally launched a beta to “stress test” the system, but the response was so overwhelming they moved up their schedule. According to Tesla North, the founders were surprised by how quickly drivers jumped on the offer. WattsApp is a registered Charging Network Operator under Canada’s federal Clean Fuel Regulations, serving as a bridge for residents to benefit from carbon credits.

The system works by connecting a Tesla account to the platform using official APIs. For those using a Gen 3 Wall Connector or the Universal Wall Connector, the app automatically tracks energy usage. Drivers earn 3 points for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) added to their vehicle. With 100 points equalling one dollar, frequent drivers can earn hundreds of dollars annually, effectively covering a significant portion of their electricity costs.

Under the new post-beta rules, WattsApp has made it much easier to access earnings. The minimum redemption threshold has been slashed to just 10,000 points, a 60% drop from the previous 25,000-point requirement. Additionally, the company has simplified rewards: all payouts are now issued exclusively as cash via Interac e-Transfer. Previous options for gift cards or physical hardware have been removed in favour of cash (which is always king).

Points earned through daily charging are redeemable annually during the first quarter of the year. This schedule is tied to the federal system, as charging data and carbon credits must be verified by regulatory authorities before the funds can be released.

While the program currently requires a Tesla Wall Connector, the company plans to expand to any internet-connected charger in future rollouts. The founders emphasized that they do not sell personal information or use it for advertising; the data is strictly for the government reporting required to generate the credits.

With the beta now closed, the program is fully operational for all eligible Canadian residents.
