Google’s Nano Banana 2 is Here and AI Images are Getting Scary Good

Google just dropped Nano Banana 2, and it is a clear sign that AI images are getting too real, too fast. This latest model, also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, is designed to bring the studio quality of Google’s Pro models to everyday users at much higher speeds.

Some of the samples being shared are just pretty impressive. The model is now capable of generating incredibly sharp 4K visuals, complex infographics, and even precise text that doesn’t have the typical AI gibberish look. School work just changed forever, kids.

Why the new model is different

The big shift here is the combination of world knowledge with speed. Because the model is powered by Google Search, it can pull real-time information to make sure the subjects it renders are actually accurate. It is also much better at following complex instructions, meaning you get exactly what you asked for without the AI taking going off on its own.

One of the biggest upgrades is subject consistency, which allows you to keep up to five characters looking exactly the same across different images. This is a massive win for anyone trying to build a storyboard or a consistent narrative. The model also handles precision text for marketing mockups and greeting cards, and can even translate that text into different languages inside the image. Users also have full control over production specs, ranging from various aspect ratios to full 4K resolution.

Availability and transparency

Nano Banana 2 is rolling out today across most Google products. It is the new default in the Gemini app and is also powering the AI Mode in Google Search and Lens. For those using the creative tool Flow, this model is now the standard option and does not cost any credits to use.

Google is also leaning into transparency with this release. Every image generated includes SynthID and C2PA Content Credentials, which act as a digital watermark so people can tell how the image was made. Don’t believe anything you see on the internet, folks.
