Gemini February 2026 Update Brings Nano Banana 2
The February 2026 Gemini drop brings a new focus on speed, personal context, and more reliable image generation. One of the most talked-about additions is Nano Banana 2, which is the official nickname for the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model.
This model is particularly good at “world knowledge,” meaning it uses real-time information from the web to make images more accurate. If you ask for a diagram or an infographic, the AI can now render text that is clear and easy to read. It even supports text translation within the images.
Naina Raisinghani, a product manager at Google’s DeepMind lab, noted that “You get the advanced world knowledge, quality and reasoning you love in Nano Banana Pro, at lightning-fast speed.” For creators, the most helpful change is subject consistency. You can now keep the same character appearance across five different images. This makes it much easier to build a storyboard or a visual narrative without the character’s face changing every time you hit generate.
While the Flash model focuses on speed, the new Gemini 3.1 Pro is built for heavy lifting. It is designed to handle complex logic and deep research tasks. In technical tests like the ARC-AGI-2, which measures how well an AI solves entirely new patterns, this model scored 77.1 percent.
One of the more interesting features for developers is its ability to generate animated SVGs. Because these are made of code instead of pixels, they stay sharp no matter how much you zoom in. This is a big step for web designers who want to add interactive elements to their sites without using heavy video files.
Google is also introducing “Personal Intelligence” as a beta feature for subscribers in the United States. This allows Gemini to connect directly to your Gmail, Photos, and YouTube history. The goal is to provide answers that are tailored to your life. For example, you could ask the AI to find a specific photo from your last trip or summarize a long email chain about a work project.
The update also includes a few quality-of-life improvements. You can now search through your chat history to find a conversation from weeks ago. Students can also use the app to create custom quizzes and flashcards to help with exam prep.
