New Tesla Model Y Orders in Canada Feature Black Headliner, QHD Display

Tesla has officially updated its Canadian website for the Model Y, bringing a pair of highly requested interior upgrades across the border. The biggest change is the addition of a new 16-inch Quad High Definition or QHD centre touchscreen (via Tesla North).

This display replaces the older 15.4-inch unit (1920 x 1200 with 2.3 million pixels) that has been a staple of the Model Y interior for years. While a difference of about half an inch might sound small, the technical specs reveal a much more impressive story. The new display has a higher pixel density (2560 x 1600 resolution with 4.1 million pixels), which results in much sharper text and clearer maps. It also features thinner bezels, which gives the dashboard a more modern and premium look.

For a long time, Canadian buyers were only offered a light grey roof liner. Many owners felt this light fabric clashed with the darker vegan leather seats and black door panels. Tesla has now made the black headliner standard on both the Premium and Performance trims. This small cosmetic tweak makes the entire cabin feel much more cohesive and refined.

However, if you are ordering the base Rear-Wheel Drive model, you will still receive the traditional grey headliner for now.

While these features are now live on the Canadian order page, there is an important detail for those who already have a vehicle on the way. Much of the Canadian Model Y inventory currently comes from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin.

The inclusion of these parts depends entirely on the build date of your specific car. If your vehicle was manufactured before the factory switched over to the new hardware, it will likely arrive with the older 15.4-inch screen. If you are placing a brand new order today, Tesla’s website confirms your vehicle will automatically include the updated hardware.
