Google’s Huge March Pixel Update: Satellite SOS Hits Canada and More
![]()
Google is dropping its latest round of Android features today as part of the March Pixel Drop, bringing several long-awaited updates to users in Canada.
Airlines are finally getting your location data
The most practical update is an expansion of the Find Hub network. If you have added a tracker tag to your suitcase, you can now generate a secure link to share its live location directly with participating airlines. Instead of arguing with a gate agent about where your bags are, you can literally show them the map. More than 10 global carriers, including Lufthansa, are already on board. There is no mention of Canadian carriers yet like Air Canada or WestJet, both of which already support AirTag sharing for iPhone users.
Satellite SOS hits Canada
For Pixel Watch 4 owners, the most important safety update is the expansion of Satellite SOS to Canada. Previously locked to the U.S., this feature allows you to contact emergency services even when you are completely off the grid with no cellular or Wi-Fi signal. Pixel Watch 2 and 3 users are also getting standalone earthquake alerts that provide a few seconds of warning before the shaking starts. Google says it’s available for 2 years free after device activation.
Pixel’s AI wants to plan your dinner
On the phone side, Google is pushing its Gemini-powered feature called Magic Cue. If you are chatting with a friend about being hungry, your Pixel will proactively suggest restaurant searches and tailored recommendations without you having to leave the app.
Other notable March Drop features include:
- Express Pay: You can now tap-to-pay with your Pixel Watch 2 or newer without needing to open the Wallet app first.
- Circle to Search Upgrades: A new Find the Look feature lets you isolate specific items of clothing from an image or video to find where to buy them.
- Phone Reminders: Your watch will now buzz if you accidentally walk away and leave your phone behind, and it will automatically lock the device for security.
- Calling Cards: You can now customize the way you appear on your friends’ phones when you call them, choosing your own photos, fonts, and colours.
