iPhone 16 Pro Max for $1,066: Why This Rogers Deal Beats the iPhone 17e

With the iPhone 17e pre-orders kicking off today at $899, Canadians seeking an iPhone deal have a tough choice to make.

However, a decent offer has surfaced at Rogers and Fido that might make the new budget model a hard sell. The carriers are currently offering Certified Pre-Owned units of the iPhone 16 Pro Max with 256GB of storage for a total price of $1,066.32.

While that is roughly $167 more than the new iPhone 17e, you are getting a significantly more powerful device for a relatively small price jump.

According to the Rogers ‘promise’, these devices are thoroughly tested by technicians and are fully functional. In many cases, these appear to be Like New units which are minimally used devices that look and function as if they were brand new. Basically these are returns by customers that changed their mind.

There is even a good chance you might receive a unit with zero charge cycles on the battery, essentially giving you a new flagship at a steep discount. For peace of mind, Rogers backs these with a 15-day return policy and a six-month warranty for Apple devices.

While the iPhone 17e is a great entry point, the 16 Pro Max is a different beast entirely. You get the massive 6.7-inch ProMotion display, the triple-camera system with a dedicated telephoto lens, and a titanium build. Plus, you get 256GB of storage, which matches the iPhone 17e’s new base tier but adds all the Pro bells and whistles.

To snag the device at this price without a long-term commitment, the workaround is simple. You can sign up for any cheap plan to get the phone and then once the device is in your hands, call to cancel the service. You then pay the remaining hardware balance of $1,066 plus tax, all within your wireless rights.

You may have to negotiate to waive a $25 activation or transaction fee, but even with that, it remains one of the best ways to get a 16 Pro Max under the $1,100 mark in today’s economy, if you’re willing to jump through some hoops. It will save you from dealing with Facebook Marketplace and possibly get scammed if you’re unlucky.

Anyone going to jump on this?

Based on my past experience dealing with that company and Fido, I wouldn’t want to deal with them even if it was free!
