Freedom Mobile Cuts Global Roaming Plan to $40, Undercuts Rogers, Telus, Bell

Freedom Mobile continues to put pressure on Rogers, Telus and Bell. As we head into spring break, the company has just launched a pretty good deal for a global roaming plan.

The company says it is offering 50% off its Total Freedom 250GB + Roam Beyond 50GB plan after digital discount, which comes down to $40 per month. That price is achieved by including an ongoing $40/month bring your own phone credit, which you can get when you activate a new line or migrate to during the promo period. Credits will be applied before your first month of service and will stay as long as you are active on the plan.

Freedom Mobile says this plan is only available until March 9, 2026.

Here are Freedom Mobile’s plans as of today (All with global roaming to 120 destinations):

  • $35/10GB + 1GB Roam Beyond
  • $40/60GB + 5GB Roam Beyond
  • $40/250GB + 50GB Roam Beyond (upgraded from 100GB and 10GB respectively)
  • $50/150GB + 20GB Roam Beyond
  • $60/200GB + 30GB Roam Beyond

Gone is the $70/250GB roaming plan with 50GB Roam Beyond, as it has been replaced with this $40/250GB plan.

Is it time to finally make the switch to Freedom Mobile? When you consider that comparable global roaming plans from Rogers, Telus, and Bell start at $85 per month, this promo saves you $45 every single month. This is the best deal we’ve seen for a global roaming plan.

The usual caveats regarding Freedom Mobile’s signal strength in your specific area still apply. However, for frequent global travellers, the value here is hard to ignore. This plan eliminates the need for expensive daily roaming fees or the hassle of managing temporary travel eSIMs. Plus, you get to keep your primary Canadian number active for receiving essential 2FA codes and text messages while abroad.

You can call Freedom to change to this plan or get it down through chat options, including WhatsApp, iMessage and RCS messaging.

While I know eSims are an option, I decided – for simple ease-of-use to use one of carrier’s (Telus) roaming packs for a week for phone, text and data service. It worked well, but it cost $60. Crazy.
So yeah, Freedom’s offers look mighty good. Even if you don’t travel all that much. And they will probably be in the running for service once my current contract runs out later this year.

Really good deal if you need global roaming and tons of data.

I expect we are going to see cheaper ‘unlimited’ data plans from all low cost tier providers later this year.

The only thing that even came close over the past couple years was the Telus 200GB plan for $40/mo with free Samsung S24FE and Galaxy watch loyalty offer.

Even black Friday 2025 offers sucked.

Keep in mind global roaming is non-priority 4g/LTE access only. So you arent streaming clear video or anything in a lot of cases. It is great for texting, calls, messaging apps, and simple web browsing. I just found it a bit deceiving that they hide this fact so well that I had to chat with a service rep to find it out. Receiving verification texts is a great feature though. Local or virtual eSims still provide more reliable service at usable 5G speeds while abroad.

This is also true outside of big cities in Canada, where you are roaming on R/T/B non-priority 4g/LTE, which, also, can be frustratingly slow and unreliable.

However, 5G access is apparently available nationwide in the US and Mexico, making coverage in the US far, far, superior to coverage in Canada even (which only has a couple dozen small 5G zones). *confirm this though, that’s just what one chat employee said.

(non-priority meaning if the network is busy you lose access or have speeds heavily throttled)

Thomas, you bring up a point however I didn’t experience anything your refering to both here in Canada while on the Big 3 network or when I was in Europe last summer. Everything loaded fast and I had zero problems.
