Freedom Mobile appears to be in the gift of giving, yet again. Last July, the telecom started a data bonus giveaway to the tune of 30 million gigabytes of monthly data. Now, it looks like they’re doing it again.
Many Freedom Mobile customers are getting text messages today, saying their accounts now have a 40GB monthly data bonus, which will remain as long as you stick to your current plan.
Numerous customers took to Reddit to detail their 40GB data bonus. Subscribers on $35/75GB Canada-US-Mexico plans, 60GB plans, and 100GB plans are seeing their allotments permanently boosted to 115GB, 100GB, and 140GB respectively for example, while users on other lower-cost tiers have reported similar data bumps.
Today we also saw Freedom Mobile launch some back to school promo plans, which are basically bringing back promos that recently expired.
So why the free data now? Back to school season and Black Friday are both coming up, and a customer sitting on a topped-up account is a lot less likely to go shopping for a better deal somewhere else. Handing out data most people won’t even touch costs Freedom almost nothing, and it keeps customers from wandering.
