iPhone Fold Design Leaked in Purported CAD Renders
Renowned Apple leaker Sonny Dickson has shared a new set of purported ‘iPhone Fold’ 3D CAD renders, giving us the clearest look yet at what Apple’s entry into the foldable market could entail.
These schematics, which are typically used by case manufacturers to prepare for upcoming hardware launches, provide a fascinating, if preliminary, glimpse into a device that could redefine Apple’s mobile lineup later this year.
The most immediate takeaway from these leaked renders is the overall form factor. While the industry has become accustomed to the tall, narrow aspect ratio common in competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, Apple appears to be charting a different course. The CAD files reveal a book-style foldable that leans heavily into a wider, more expansive orientation when unfolded.
This design choice strongly reinforces previous industry chatter suggesting that Apple wants its first foldable to offer a tablet-like experience, specifically one that mirrors the portability and utility of the iPad mini. By opting for a wider aspect ratio, the device is positioned to handle iPadOS-style multitasking more naturally, potentially allowing users to run existing tablet-optimized apps without the awkward scaling issues that plague many current foldable Android devices.
The renders also highlight a significant departure in the rear camera department. Gone is the massive, triple-lens square housing we have come to expect from the Pro lineup. Instead, these files showcase a cleaner, horizontal pill-shaped camera module. This configuration includes two lenses and what appears to be a separate flash and microphone.
Notably, the frame features a unique hybrid look. The corners appear rounded in the traditional iPhone style, but the areas near the central hinge are squared off, hinting at a complex hinge mechanism that Apple has likely spent years perfecting. Other details spotted in the files include volume buttons shifted to the left side and a pinhole-style cutout for the selfie camera.
While the renders only capture the physical exterior, the surrounding conversation in the tech community is already filling in the internal blanks. There are reports of a 5.3-inch external cover screen and a expansive 7.8-inch internal panel, with a titanium and aluminum build designed to keep the device durable yet pocketable.
The device is widely expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max lineup in September 2026.

What is this different from the CAD renders leaked months ago? I even had to check the date of this post because it just feels weird for it to be posted like fresh news.
