Apple Studios F1 Walks Away With an Oscar, While One Battle After Another Wins Best Picture

Apple Original Film F1 nabbed the Oscar for ‘Best Sound’ during the award ceremony this weekend. The film was nominated for a total of four categories.

F1 was released last summer on June 27 and recieved a lot of notable acclaim throughout its theatrical run into it hitting Apple TV. At the 98th Academy Awards, F1 went up against other acclaimed films such as Frankenstein, One Battle After Another, Sinners and Sirāt. Ultimately, it was F1 that one with Gareth John, Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A. Rizzo, and Juan Peralta was recognized.

The film was a summer blockbuster spectacle, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. It centers on Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a seasoned driver returning to F1 to partner with rookie Joshua Pearce (Idris). The film is based on the 2023 F1 season and features many professional drivers, including Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.

In 2022, Apple acquired the distribution rights for F1 in a $250 million deal. The company then worked with Warner Bros. Picture as the latter acquired the theatrical, home entertainment and digital purchase rights from Apple. However, the film still landed on Apple TV as the company retained streaming rights of the film. F1 ended up grossing  $189.6 million in the United States and Canada and a total of $633.4 million globally.

Elsewhere, One Battle After Another took home the ‘Best Picture’ award. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who also won the Best Director Oscar, One Battle After Another was nominated for a total of 13 Oscars. Ultimately, the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti and Sean Penn won the big award of the night alongside five other awards.
