PlayStation is rolling out a software update for its PlayStation Portal handheld. The software includes support for a 1080p High Quality mode for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.
As per a PlayStation Blog post, the software is releasing globally for PlayStation Portal. As part of this software, players will be able to use Remote Play and Cloud Streaming capabilities on PlayStation Portal with “a higher bitrate compared to the default 1080p Standard mode.” The 1080p High Quality mode is claimed to provide smoother gameplay and a more high-fidelity experience while playing.
In order to enable 1080p High Quality mode, PlayStation Portal owners must go to the ‘Quick Menu’ and navigate to ‘Max Resolution’. From here, the ‘1080p High Quality’ option is available during Remote Play or Cloud Streaming. The changes are then applied when restarting the Remote Play or Cloud Streaming session.
As part of the latest update, PlayStation is enhancing the Cloud Streaming service, introducing new enhancements to “reduce friction during Cloud Streaming sessions.” This includes a new UI that shows up when selecting ‘Stream’ on a game bundle page, allowing you to play a specific game. Game Invites notifications are now being made available alongside enhanced Trophy notifications while playing.
According to PlayStation, there has been a 162 percent growth in Cloud Streaming monthly users year-over-year in January. The company is also reporting that 50 percent of PlayStation Plus users are subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium, “reflecting growing engagement with the cloud experience.”
