Motorola to Buy Bell’s Radio Business for $675 Million

Motorola Solutions is picking up the land mobile radio (LMR) network business from Bell Mobility in a deal worth a cool $675 million CAD. Announced by Motorola’s Canadian branch late last week, the move is expected to wrap up in the final quarter of 2026 once the usual regulatory hurdles are cleared.

While this deal might look like a big split, these two have actually been attached at the hip for over three decades. Bell and Motorola have spent the last 30 years co-managing the secure radio networks that Canadian emergency services and businesses lean on every day.

Even with Motorola taking over the driver’s seat of the network itself, Bell isn’t walking away entirely. They will stay on as a key service delivery partner, meaning the two companies will continue to work together to keep the lights on for public safety communications across Canada.

“We have long admired Bell Canada for the loyalty and trust they’ve built with customers across the country,” said Michael Martin, president, Motorola Solutions Canada Networks Inc. in a statement. “This acquisition helps protect the long-term resiliency and security of the country’s land mobile radio communications for the Canadian communities that rely on them every day.”

Land mobile radios are essentially the rugged, always-on communication tools used by first responders and industries that can’t afford a dropped signal. By moving the assets directly under Motorola’s roof, the company can more tightly control the specialized hardware and tech that keeps these essential services running.
