Apple’s Foldable iPhone is the ‘Most Significant Overhaul in the iPhone’s History’

Apple’s long-reported foldable iPhone is being primed to be “the most significant overhaul in the iPhone’s history,” according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
In Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, the unannounced foldable iPhone is being propped up to be a defining entry in Apple’s catalogue. “iPhone 4, iPhone 6 and iPhone X were clearly a big deal, but this is a whole new design,” Gurman states.
It’s been reported that the foldable iPhone may launch later this fall. It’s believed that the device will have a vertical fold, reminiscent of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Early leaks indicate that the device’s inner display will be around 7.8 inches. The outer display is believed to be around 5.3 inches. Apple is expected to ditch Face ID for this device and return to Touch ID, with it integrated into a side button. This is likely due to restricted space conditions within the device.
Apple is also expected to utilize a larger battery cell to make the foldable iPhone one of the longest-lasting Apple devices on a per-charge basis. There’s no firm indication of what the final battery capacity will be, but given the power a foldable iPhone will draw, battery life will be a major focus.
Currently, it’s believed that Apple’s first foldable iPhone is on track to be unveiled this September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. However, analysts expect Apple to delay the foldable’s release until after the iPhone 18 Pro models ship.
Pricing is also widely speculated to land at around $2,000 US ($2,718 CAD). However, given the current economic state and the race for components, the price could fluctuate higher by the time September arrives.
