Google Meet Adds CarPlay Support: How to Join Calls Safely While Driving
Google is making it easier for professionals to stay connected on the road with the official launch of Google Meet for Apple CarPlay.
This update allows users to join meetings directly from your car’s dashboard, providing a hands-free way to stay in the loop during a commute or between appointments. The feature is designed for safety and quick transitions, allowing you to move a meeting from your iPhone to your car’s display with a single tap.
To keep the driver’s focus on the road, Google Meet on CarPlay operates in a strictly audio-only mode. Your camera is automatically turned off, and you will not see any incoming video from other participants.
You will hear everyone in the meeting through your car’s speakers and can participate using your vehicle’s built-in microphone. You can also view your upcoming meeting schedule directly on the dashboard to stay organized throughout the day.
The rollout began on March 23, 2026, and is moving gradually to all users over a 15-day period. There are no complicated settings to change as the feature is on by default for anyone who has the Google Meet app installed on their iPhone.
To get started, simply connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle to see the Meet icon on your dash. The update is available to all Google Workspace customers, individual subscribers, and personal Google account users, explained Google on April 2.
While iPhone users can start using this today, Google noted that a version for Android Auto is also in the works and will be released soon.
