Fitbit Adds Canadian French Support to New AI Health Coach

Fitbit is moving its Gemini-powered personal health coach into its next phase, officially adding support for Canadian French as it expands to 37 countries.

While the AI tool has been available in English to Canadians since earlier this year, this update ensures French-speaking users can finally interact with the digital coach in their native language across both Android and iOS.

The health coach acts as a conversational advisor that analyzes your specific biometric data to provide custom advice. Instead of just viewing a heart rate chart, you can ask the coach descriptive questions like why you feel fatigued after a certain run or request a tailored 30-minute training plan. The latest update also integrates VO2 Max (cardio fitness) data, allowing the AI to offer more precise feedback on your overall heart health.

These countries will get the AI health coach today: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

This is the list of new languages supported: Brazilian Portuguese, Canadian French, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Chinese (Traditional).

What to Expect in the Public Preview

Because the health coach is still in a Public Preview stage, it operates separately from the standard Fitbit experience. Users can switch back and forth between the two, but should be aware that several key features have not yet been ported over to the AI-driven interface.

Currently, the Preview does not support manual editing of sleep data or the logging of blood glucose and body temperature. Users who rely on advanced running metrics (specifically those with a Pixel Watch 3 or 4) will also find those features missing for now. Additionally, social features like leaderboards, badges, and the ability to share workouts with friends are currently disabled in the coach view.

Syncing and Third-Party Data

One of the biggest changes in this version is how it handles data from multiple sources. If you use third-party apps, Fitbit now uses Health Connect to pull in information like weight, body fat, and steps to give the coach a better big picture of your health.

However, Fitbit notes that the Preview app may show different values than what appears on your actual watch screen. This is because the app is now merging data from multiple sources to reconcile discrepancies. While basic metrics like sleep and distance are supported, the coach cannot yet see heart rate variability (HRV), breathing rate, or specific GPS routes from third-party apps.

Fitbit says eligible users in these countries will see the update in their Fitbit app over the “coming weeks”.
