According to a new report by Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple is planning to introduce a “Deep Red” colour for its premium lineup this year, a move that could mark a significant shift in the device’s visual identity.
Last year, the iPhone 17 Pro made waves with its bold Cosmic Orange finish. However, it seems that Apple is leaning toward a dark, sophisticated red for the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro models. This shade is described as a rich burgundy or deep crimson, which would likely be applied to the device’s titanium frame.
Interestingly, the rumour is gaining traction because of what is happening in the wider smartphone market. Leakers have noted that several Android manufacturers are already prototyping their upcoming flagship phones in a very similar deep red shade. While it is common for the industry to follow Apple’s design cues, some experts believe this could be the result of shared trend forecasting.
This change comes at a time when Apple is expected to shake up its launch strategy. Rumours indicate that the standard iPhone 18 might be delayed until early 2027, leaving the spotlight entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro, the Pro Max, and the highly anticipated foldable iPhone this September.
Beyond the fresh paint job, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to feature the new A20 Pro chip, built on a cutting-edge 2nm process. This should provide a significant boost in efficiency and speed, helping the phone handle more advanced on-device AI tasks without draining the battery. We are also hearing whispers of a “C2” modem, Apple’s first in-house effort to replace the Qualcomm components it has used for years.
On the front, the Dynamic Island may finally get a trim. Reports suggest a smaller cutout thanks to under-display Face ID technology, giving users more screen real estate. The camera system is also slated for a major upgrade, with a variable aperture lens.
