Tubi Opens First Canadian Office in Toronto as It Bets Big on AI
Tubi has officially opened its first Canadian office in downtown Toronto, marking a major milestone for the free ad-supported streaming service.
The company shared several photos of the new workspace with iPhone in Canada, showcasing a 10,000 square foot hub designed to support its growing team. Currently home to 21 employees, the space has enough capacity to house up to 50 staff members as the platform continues its expansion.
Since its local launch in 2015, Tubi has seen significant momentum in Canada, including 30% year-over-year growth in monthly active users since 2020. The new Toronto headquarters will serve as a central base for talent in product, data, and engineering, supporting the company’s focus on an AI-first approach to streaming innovation.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from Mike Bidgoli, Tubi’s Chief Product and Technology Officer. The company also announced that Derek Watson, Senior Vice President of Engineering, will lead the Toronto office, signalling a long-term commitment to the Canadian tech sector.
Tubi currently offers the largest free library of movies and TV shows in the country. Recent additions to the platform include originals such as Kissing is the Easy Part and the second season of Big Mood.
According to Tubi’s own data, 84% of Canadians agree that watching advertisements is a fair trade-off for accessing premium content at no cost. This new physical presence in Toronto is expected to further strengthen Tubi’s position in the competitive Canadian streaming market. Tubi is owned by Fox Corp, which acquired the streaming service in 2020 for roughly $440 million US.
