iOS 27 May Introduce a Siri Camera Mode

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is looking to move beyond basic photography by deeply integrating Siri and Apple Intelligence directly into the Camera app with the upcoming release of iOS 27.

The most striking change coming to the interface is said to be the addition of a dedicated Siri mode. For years, we have switched between Photo, Video, Portrait, and Panorama. In iOS 27, users will reportedly see a new option that transforms the shutter button into an Apple Intelligence icon.

When in this mode, the camera isn’t just capturing light, it’s observing. This suggests that much like Google’s Gemini Live, Apple wants to move away from Siri being a voice-only interface and toward a visual-first assistant. Instead of taking a photo and then asking Siri about it later, the camera will interpret what it sees through the viewfinder instantly.

A major part of this overhaul involves the expansion of Visual Intelligence. While currently accessible via the Camera Control button on newer models, Apple plans to bring these features front and centre for all users. Two practical new capabilities have been highlighted in the latest leaks:

  • Nutrition and Health Integration: Pointing your camera at a nutrition label on a food package will allow the iPhone to scan calories, macronutrients, and ingredients. This data is expected to sync directly with the Health app, making food logging almost instantaneous and removing the need for manual entry in third-party apps.
  • Instant Contact Capture: The camera will now be able to recognize phone numbers and addresses on business cards, flyers, or posters. Users can add this information to their Contacts app with a single tap, eliminating the friction of typing out details from a physical card.

The intelligence doesn’t stop at the Camera app. Code discoveries suggest that iOS 27 will allow the Wallet app to use Visual Intelligence to scan physical event tickets or membership cards and generate digital versions automatically.

Additionally, the Photos app is expected to receive new Apple Intelligence Tools. These include a “Reframe” feature for spatial photos and an “Extend” tool that uses generative AI to fill in the edges of a photo when you change the crop.

Apple is expected to officially preview these new iOS 27 features at WWDC 2026 this June.
