Public Mobile Down? Here’s How to Fix Your Data and Calls Right Now

Public Mobile office

Public Mobile users across Canada are reporting issues with cellular data and outgoing calls following a system update that took place early Wednesday morning.

While the carrier briefly posted troubleshooting advice to its community forums, the message was later removed, leaving many customers looking for answers.

The connectivity issues appear to be a side effect of the overnight maintenance. According to the message posted to the Public Mobile community forums, archived by iPhone in Canada, the company is aware of the situation and has stated that a simple device refresh is necessary to fix the connection for most users.

If you are currently seeing SOS mode or are unable to use your data, the recommended fix is a hard restart. To restore your service, power your phone off completely and wait at least 30 seconds before turning it back on. This process forces the device to reconnect to the updated network towers and should return your service to normal.

Readers told us enabling Airplane Mode (and disabling Wi-Fi) and turning it off will then get back a signal.

Public Mobile has not yet confirmed why the original support post was deleted or if a broader fix is being implemented on their end. The outage comes at a busy time for the telecom sector, as parent company Telus and competitor Bell are both expected to report their first-quarter financial results next week.
