Spotify Launches “Verified by Spotify” Badge
Spotify has just announced the launch of its new “Verified by Spotify” badge to help listeners distinguish human musicians from AI-generated personas and functional content farms.
Earlier this year, Spotify transitioned its old blue checkmarks to a Registered Artist label, which simply meant an artist had claimed their profile. The new green Verified badge, however, carries much more weight, signaling that a profile has undergone a rigorous review process.
Spotify competitors like Deezer recently reported that AI-generated music now accounts for nearly 44% of daily uploads. To combat this, Spotify’s new standards for verification are strict: profiles that primarily represent AI-generated music or AI-created personas are explicitly ineligible for the badge. To earn the green checkmark, artists must prove they are more than just an algorithm.
Below are the requirements for Spotify’s new “Verified by Spotify” badge:
- Consistent Engagement: A history of sustained listener activity over time.
- Off-Platform Presence: Proof of a real-world career, such as listed concert dates, official merchandise, and verified social media links.
- Policy Compliance: Strict adherence to Spotify’s platform rules and a “good-faith” presence in the music community.
Spotify expects that over 99% of the artists that users actively search for will be verified at launch, a group that includes hundreds of thousands of independent creators worldwide.
Beyond the badge, Spotify is introducing a beta feature called Artist Details. This section will appear on all artist profiles, regardless of whether they have achieved verified status. The company describes this feature as “nutrition facts” for music, providing listeners with a transparent look at an artist’s track record.
This new information hub will surface career milestones, release patterns, and touring history.
