Porsche to Race Laguna Seca in Apple Rainbow Livery
For the upcoming round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Laguna Seca, Porsche will dress its modern 963 hybrid prototypes in the historic Apple Computer rainbow livery.
This stunning visual tribute isn’t just for show, it marks a massive double milestone. The year 2026 represents the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport and, perhaps more significantly for tech fans, the 50th anniversary of the founding of Apple.
By bringing this specific design back to Northern California, Porsche is celebrating a shared history of innovation that stretches back over four decades.
The inspiration for this weekend’s special wrap comes from the 1980 Porsche 935 K3. Back then, the car was entered by Dick Barbour Racing and famously featured the multicoloured Apple Computer logo and rainbow stripes. It was a rare moment where Apple, still a young company in Cupertino, stepped onto the global stage of endurance racing, including an appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Oliver Schusser, Vice President of Apple Music, Sports, and Beats, noted that the partnership reflects a long-standing relationship. He mentioned that the 1980 debut of the Apple logo on a Porsche race car was the start of a shared passion for creativity. Now, half a century after Apple’s inception, that original design is being reimagined for the modern era.
While the livery is a throwback, the machinery underneath is cutting-edge. The two Porsche 963 factory cars, numbered 6 and 7, are complex hybrid machines that currently lead the IMSA championship standings. These vehicles use a 4.6-litre V8 engine paired with advanced electric components, embodying the same spirit of technical evolution that defines both Porsche and Apple.
The choice of Laguna Seca for this reveal is also strategic. The circuit is located just 80 miles south of Apple Park, Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino.
